The Niobrara Valley Prescribed Fire Association supports the safe and effective use
of prescribed fire by private landowners within the Niobrara River drainage area
Since the middle of the 2000’s more and more landowners have realized the struggle
to keep ahead of invading eastern red cedar by mechanical means was becoming a huge
challenge. A few ranchers in the Niobrara Valley . . .
The Niobrara Valley Prescribed Fire Association is comprised of landowners and others
interested in using prescribed fire as a means of controlling eastern red cedar,
decreasing the abundance of of non-native cool-season grasses, and reducing wildfire
danger in the Niobrara Valley watershed.
The NVPFA co-hosted the Fire Learning Network’s 2012 spring training event. Over
40 fire-fighter trainees were on hand for an informational workshop followed by a
1400-acre demonstration burn in Rock County. Click HERE for photos of the post burn

The NVPFA administers two mobile fire cache units to assist landowner members with
their burns. Each unit contains enough equipment and protective clothing for a 10-person
